Twin Wire Mesh Fencing - the British-Commonwealth Name for Double Wire
If you are specifying fencing in the UK, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa, you probably call this product twin wire mesh fencing. In Germany and the Netherlands the same panel goes by doppelstabmatten or double wire fence. It is one product with two names: two horizontal wires clamped on either side of each vertical wire, creating the most rigid flat welded panel available. The twin-wire structure stays flat under ball impact, wind load and crowd pressure - no bending ribs needed - and it is the standard perimeter choice for schools, sports courts and public buildings across all these markets. For the general product explanation, see our double wire fence overview.

Specification
▶ According to the mesh hole size, it can be divided into ordinary type double wire fence, and 358 type double wire fence.
358 security double wire fence:
● Mesh opening: 76.2 * 12.7 mm (3'*0.5')
● Wire diameter: 4/6/4 mm (8 gauge wire)
▶ According to the thickness of the wire diameter, it including 656 double wire fence and 868 double wire fence.
▶ According to the top style, it can be divided into flat-topped double wire fence, or arch-topped double wire fence.
▶ According to the number of horizontal wire, it can be designed as two horizontal wires on each horizontal line, or two horizontal wire on every three horizontal lines.
Specifications & Configurations
Twin wire panels come in two standard wire configurations, and the choice depends on the security level and impact load the fence must handle:

358 twin wire variant: For high-security sites, twin wire is also manufactured in a 358 mesh configuration (76.2 × 12.7mm aperture, 4/6/4mm wire). This combines the anti-climb/anti-cut properties of 358 mesh with the twin-wire rigidity. It is less common than the standard 50 × 200mm panel but available on request for prisons, data centers and military perimeters.
Post options: Round 48mm / 60mm × 1.5–2.0mm, square SHS 50 × 50 to 80 × 80mm, rectangular RHS 40 × 60 to 80 × 100mm. UK and Australasian specs tend to prefer SHS posts with visible clamp-bar fixings; European specs more often use round posts with invisible clip systems.

Coating, Standards & Market-Specific Requirements
Twin wire panels are always supplied with a corrosion protection system. The three options, and which markets prefer them:

UK & BS 1722: British fencing specifications reference BS 1722 Series for installation and BS EN 1461 for hot-dip galvanizing. UK buyers typically require a minimum zinc coating of 43μm (local) on the steel wire before powder coating. We provide zinc thickness certificates with each shipment.
Australia & NZ & AS 2423: Australasian specifiers reference AS 2423 for welded mesh and often require heavier zinc coatings (up to 70μm for coastal zones). Powder coat color RAL 6005 green is the default for Australian school and council projects.
South Africa & SANS 1213: South African fencing standards reference SANS 1213 for welded mesh fencing. The 8/6/8 configuration with galvanized + powder coated finish is the standard specification for Gauteng school perimeters and Western Cape industrial estates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is twin wire fencing the same as double wire fencing?
Yes - identical product, different regional name. "Twin wire" is common in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. "Double wire" (or doppelstabmatten) is used in continental Europe. Both refer to a panel with two horizontal wires sandwiching each vertical wire. If your tender documents say "twin wire," our double wire panels match the specification exactly.
What standard should I reference in my tender specification?
In the UK, reference BS 1722-14 for chain-link and welded mesh fencing installation, and BS EN 1461 for galvanizing. In Australia and New Zealand, reference AS 2423 for welded mesh and AS/NZS 4680 for hot-dip galvanizing. We can confirm compliance with any of these standards before production begins - send us the relevant clauses and we respond with a point-by-point compliance statement.
Do you supply a full system - panels, posts, gates and fittings?
Yes. Every order includes twin wire panels, SHS or RHS posts (with plastic caps), panel-to-post clamp bars with security bolts, and matching single-leaf or double-leaf gates. All components are coated in the same color batch so there are no shade mismatches on site.
How are twin wire panels packed for export?
Panels stacked flat on steel pallets with corrugated cardboard between layers and stretch wrap on the outside. Posts bundled separately. A 40ft container holds approximately 500–600 panels (2.5mW, 1.8mH) with posts and fittings - enough for roughly 300m of fence line including gates.
Can the panel top be curved or arched instead of flat?
Yes. We manufacture both flat-top and arch-top (convex curved top) twin wire panels. Arch-top panels are popular in European residential estates for their softer visual profile. The arch adds about 100–150mm to the center height. Specify your preference when ordering.
