A PVC coated gabion box is a woven double-twist gabion basket whose wire carries an additional layer of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) extruded over hot-dip galvanizing - typically 0.5 mm thick. The PVC sheath does two jobs at once: it adds a second barrier against corrosion in salt water, polluted water and acidic soil, and it gives the basket a durable color - green, grey, black or any RAL reference - that blends into parks, gardens and urban riverbanks instead of showing raw metal. If your project is a civil retaining wall hidden behind vegetation, plain galvanized or Galfan wire does the job at lower cost; if the wall face will be seen by people, PVC coated gabion is usually the specified choice.
