Location decides it. In water and on ground that moves - riverbeds, channel floors, settling embankments - woven double-twist baskets flex and stay intact. On stable ground in air - walls, headwalls, terraces, anything with a visible face - welded baskets are faster to build and hold a true plane. Many projects use both; the two types are not competitors, they are different tools.

How does assembly actually work on site?

Unfold the cage, close it into a box, screw the supplied spirals through the vertical edges, drop in the stiffener rods, and it is ready for stone. Two workers set up a cage in a few minutes. Baskets are placed, joined to their neighbours, then filled together so the row stays aligned.

Will the welds break if the wall settles?

Small movement, no - the wire itself has some give and 4.0 mm welds are strong. Real differential settlement, yes, and this is the one failure mode that matters: a cracked weld line in a wall face. Prevention is not more welding, it is the right foundation: level the base, compact it, and use woven baskets where soil is still moving.

Which coating do I need?

Hot-dip galvanized handles most dry-land walls for decades. Galfan is the upgrade where humidity or road salt is constant. PVC dip is for walls people touch and sites near the sea, and it lets you match wall mesh to surroundings in black, gray or green. Temporary works can run electro-galvanized and save cost.
