What a Gabion Mattress Does for a Channel
A gabion mattress (also called a reno mattress) is the low-profile member of the woven gabion family: a flat, wide double-twist mesh unit, typically 0.17–0.5 m thick and 2–6 m long, laid along a channel bed or bank and filled with stone. Where a deep gabion basket builds a wall, a mattress armors a surface - and because the woven mesh is one continuous fabric, the unit flexes and settles with the ground instead of cracking like rigid concrete lining. The stone fill drains freely, so no hydrostatic pressure builds behind the revetment, and vegetation grows through the mesh within one or two seasons, giving you a living channel lining that gets stronger, not weaker, over time. That combination of flexibility, drainage and natural finish is why hydraulic engineers specify woven mattresses to EN 10223-3 for river training, drainage channels and scour protection.

Choosing the Right Coating for Your Water
Hot-dip galvanized (Class 1 / Class 3) - the standard choice for inland drainage and irrigation channels with neutral water.
Galfan (Zn-5%Al) - roughly 2–3× the corrosion life of plain zinc; the default for permanent river works and mildly aggressive water.
PoliMac polymer coating - for acidic or saline water, industrial runoff and marine-adjacent channels; polymer over Galfan wire, design life up to 120 years.

Mattress vs Basket vs Terra Mesh Panel
Typical applications: river and drainage channel lining, bridge pier and culvert scour protection, embankment and levee revetments, spillway aprons, lake and canal bank stabilization. Note how the three woven products differ: a gabion basket (1 m deep) builds the retaining structure itself; a gabion mattress (0.17–0.5 m thick) covers and protects flat surfaces under water flow; and a Terra Mesh system panel is the unit for reinforced soil slopes, where the geogrid tail and fascia arrive as one continuous piece. If your project is a slope rather than a channel, ask us about Terra Mesh; if it is a wall, ask about gabion baskets.

FAQ
Q: Can mattresses be made to our project drawings?
Yes - send channel cross-sections or the specification schedule; we weave to length, width and thickness, including non-standard apertures for small stone fill.
Q: What is the MOQ and lead time?
MOQ 100 pcs; stock sizes 12 days, project-woven sizes 15–18 days after order confirmation.
Q: How are they packed for export?
Flat-folded and bundled - one 40ft container loads 500–600 mattresses depending on size, with lacing wire and instructions included.
Q: What test documents come with the shipment?
Mill certificates (wire diameter, tensile strength, coating mass) and works test reports to EN 10223-3 for every consignment.
